In Minoan Crete, the acrobatic ritual sport of bull-leaping was practiced by both females and males. This athletic ceremony expressed veneration and celebration of the bull, who was intrinsically associated with the goddess. The bull’s head and horns were a frequent decoration motif, as they resemble the uterus and fallopian tubes.
